Mrs. Elton throwing a brag into her offer to help Jane Fairfax “I shall speak to Mr. E. The man who fetches our letters every morning (one of our men, I forget his name) shall inquire for yours too and bring them to you.

In Sense & Sensibility, the Dashwoods have £10,000 (income £500) same as Mrs. Elton and have one man and two maids. Men were taxed more heavily and more expensive. Since the Eltons have a bit more money (he has a living and some land) and have a carriage. I’m going to allow them maybe MAYBE 3 men (Butler, footman, groom).

You can remember 3 names, you pretentious pretender.

One important thing that you should do as a queer person is to find another queer person whose brain works just like yours (romantically or not) and then adopt a cat together and then finally steal that fucking Pikachu and make it big

the most underrated scene in emma is when miss bates is speaking to mr. knightley through her window, and she invites him to come bc everyone, including emma, is there, and he’s like sure!! but then he learns that FRANK is also there and he’s like oh i’m actually in a hurry

miss bates: miss woodhouse is here!!

knightley: oh well i’ll come inside if you ask me to

miss bates: so is mr. churchill!!

knightley: nevermind

Spoilers for Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility

(I know it’s 200+ years old but still)

Edward Ferrar’s proposal to Elinor is hilarious in the book.

He shows up all nervous and pale. Mrs. Dashwood, Elinor, Marianne and Margaret all think he’s already married to Lucy Steele and offer congratulations. He’s confused.

He breaks the news that his brother ROBERT is actually married to Lucy while, all the while, absentmindedly picking up a pair of scissors and ruining it by cutting up the sheath that holds it! Elinor runs to the next room and bursts into tears of joy, probably unleashing all the emotions she’s been holding in for the entire novel.

Edward is now in a daze, not hearing whatever Mrs. Dashwood and Marianne are saying to him, and he leaves without a word to wander around the village because even with all this he still needs to psych himself up to propose.

Jane Austen doesn’t even describe the rest. She just says all you need to know is that by the end of a three hour window, everything was resolved. Elinor and Edward were engaged and the family was sitting down to dine joyfully together.

i’ve heard a lot of people say “don’t reach out to your friends first and see how many people will remain in your life. those are your true friends” and i get it. it sucks and it’s tiring constantly being the one to message first, to initiate hang outs but don’t take this so literally. some friendships require initiation. i have lost touch with so many people who genuinely cared about me and wanted me in their life because i stopped reaching out. it’s a hard pill to swallow but honestly some people just suck at it and it doesn’t mean they don’t love and value you. i’ve reconnected with some people over the past few months and it’s crazy how genuinely happy they are to see me and how engaged they are in the conversation. i just think sometimes we’re too harsh on each other & too quick to emphasize other peoples flaws and remove them from our lives but then we’ll all be alone and what’s the point of life then!!!!
